My Story
Triathlon - Training and Competition
As a child, I was a good swimmer and often took part in short-course swimming competitions. At the age of 11, my mother taught me to play golf and I practiced this sport for years. I was born north of Stockholm in Sweden, have three younger brothers and grew up with parents who were passionate about golf. For many years, I was no longer active in sports due to puberty and growing up but then I started swimming and going to the gym regularly when I was 30. Then family came, I had a child and got married, and sport took a back seat. Instead of sport, I started working again an my weight was about 220 lbs due to lack of exercise and poor nutrition. My husband, who was a professional athlete as a teenager, saw how I changed so he simply took me with him on his runs. He totally motivated me by showing me that running makes a difference. I could tell that I was not only physically feeling stronger and better, I also felt generally more confident and happier. At 37, I had a career change and as a newly qualified real estate agent in Munich, I had to work a lot. Despite this, I managed to combine my training with my job. I started with priority lists and my training was always the top priority. At the beginning, the training was just endurance (without strength training) and it was a kind of therapy for me, like a relief to be outside in the evenings. I mainly trained swimming, cycling and running. At some point I was ready to take part in a triathlon in Munich. I enjoyed it so much that I simply decided to make a life with sport and triathlon. After many years of training I had progress with triathlon competitions and swimming competitions, half marathons and marathons. Then when I was in my mid-40s, I moved to Hong Kong with my family. Despite my professional commitments, I continued to take part in international triathlons and marathons in Asia. I trained with fokus and determination and I invested a lot of time and energy in my training. This resulted in successful racing and podium in my age group at award ceremonies (AG45). During this time, I worked Parttime as a self-employed fitness- and swimming coach. In 2018 I moved to Cologne in Germany with my sporty family; my now 18-year-old son (tennis tournament player - U18 German ranking no. 189) and my husband (Hawaii Ironman finisher and SpoHo personal trainer). Here in Cologne, I completed the state-recognized DSA education as a personal trainer and nutritionist. I now work as a self-employed, certified personal trainer and since 2021 I organise boot camps (circuit training) in Stadtwald/Jahnwiese, Cologne. Additionally, I also work parttime as as a sports trainer in a fitness studio.
